A Sedalia man who was driving a vehicle that crashed in Cooper County on Tuesday, August 27, has been charged with a felony.
According to a news release from the Pettis County Sheriff’s office, deputies initiated a pursuit in the 1100 block of U.S. Highway 65 when a subject known to have multiple warrants for his arrest was observed operating a vehicle. The pursuit continued through Sedalia to the area of East 16th Street and South Marshall; then turned around and back into Sedalia on East 16th Street. The vehicle continued through Sedalia, crossed U.S. Highway 50 and exited the city limits on Engineer. The vehicle continued through rural Pettis County and ended up on Route Z, traveling into Cooper County. The vehicle crashed on East Beech Lane, south of I-70, and both of the vehicle’s occupants were taken into custody.
The driver, 31-year-old Eric Swigert, was arrested and booked into the Pettis County Jail on multiple active warrants- including a Missouri no-bond warrant; a Howard County warrant for Possession of Stolen Property, with 10,000 cash-only bond; and a Dade County, Wisconsin, no-bond warrant for Vehicle Violation to Elude Officer and Violation of a Domestic Abuse Order. According to online court documents, relating to this incident, Swigert has been charged with a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest by Fleeing, with bond set at $10,000 cash or surety. His initial hearing is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
The release says the passenger, 22-year-old Nicole Williams, of Marshall, was arrested on two active Pettis County warrants for Failure to Appear with original charges of Stealing, with a combined bond of $2,650. As a result of the crash, Williams was transported to Bothwell Regional Health Center in Sedalia for treatment before being transported to the Pettis County Jail.
