Due to a motor-vehicle crash, the city of Lexington has reported a pressure spike in its natural-gas system.
According to text messages, this has caused a couple of gas-line breaks in town. If you smell natural gas, you are urged to call 9-1-1.
An updated message says “Empire gas may be shutting down service to the entire town during a repair. We will keep you informed.”
A message on the Lafayette County Emergency Management Agency’s Facebook page at 8 a.m. says: “At approximately 6:45 this morning Lafayette Regional Hospital was evacuated due to a gas leak that was caused by an accident at another location. Ambulance crews from Higginsville and Well-Nap assisted Lexington transporting patients to First Baptist Church. At this time the Hospital is back open and patients are being transported back.”
