The Marshall Dog Park has been in the works for quite a while; and it is now taking shape.
According to committee member Disa Farris, some work has been done on the park, which she has envisioned for more than a decade.

Farris thanked Doug Swinger for donating over 1,200 feet of fencing- the majority of the fencing that will be necessary for the project. She also said the Saline Animal League has played a big role in the process; as have committee members Craig McDaniel and Leslie Huston.

Farris said she had traveled around with former Marshall Parks and Recreation Superintendent Jeff Stubblefield to several different locations looking for the right place for the park over the past few years. But rather than settle for something that wouldn’t fit the longterm needs, they thought waiting was better. And now the city owns the former Hab Center property, which opened up the possibility of putting it there.
The park will be located adjacent to the Marshall Habilitation Center Lake- west of North Lincoln Avenue and south of Highway 240 (Santa Fe Trail) .
Weather permitting, Farris said the hope is to get the dog park opened this fall. She said the plan is to have the park open 365 days a year- with operating times from sunrise to sunset. She said perhaps the park will be closed for some maintenance or upkeep from time to time. She said, at this time, it is planned to be free admittance for owners and their pets, making accessibility a positive factor for the Marshall community. But she stresses, there will be a set of rules- and one of those rules is: “You must pick up after your dog every single time.”
