A 39-year-old Keytesville man is facing multiple felony charges after allegedly stealing some firearms earlier this month.
A probable-cause statement says an area gun shop owner reported to authorities that he bought a couple of firearms from Nicholas Pope. He said he didn’t feel good about the purchase, and authorities investigated and found out the firearms matched the description of rifles that were reported stolen from a farm on Water Well Road the previous week. The gun shop owner said Pope also had two more guns and other items he did not buy.
According to online court documents, Pope has been charged with four counts of a Class D Felony for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm; another Class D Felony for Burglary in the Second Degree; and a misdemeanor for stealing. Bond has been set at $5,000 cash only.
On Tuesday, September 10, Pope waived his formal arraignment. His cause has been continued for another hearing at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, September 24, at Chariton County Circuit Court.
