An alderman in an area city has been accused of animal abuse.
According to a probable-cause statement, authorities believe 74-year-old Larry Looney, a member of the Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen, shot a cat with a high-powered pellet gun in March. The cat died before its owner could get it to the vet.
According to online court documents, a warrant has been issued and Looney has been charged with a Class A Misdemeanor for Animal Abuse. Bond has been set at $2,500 cash or surety, with 10-percent allowed.
Looney’s initial hearing is pending at Saline County Circuit Court.
