Virginia “Granny” DeWitt, age 81, of Marshall Junction, died Saturday, September 14, 2019.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 18, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, where visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 17. Burial will follow Wednesday’s services at Peninsula Cemetery near Blackwater.

Memorials are suggested to Peninsula Cemetery.

Survivors include four children: Kathy Francis, of Marshall, Helen Newton (Tom), of Blackwater, James “Bo” Ballenger (Theresa), of San Antonio, TX, and Amy Basnett (Jeff), of Marshall Junction; a grandson whom she adopted and raised as her own, Ed Ballenger (Ellie), of Marshall Junction; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her companion of over 30 years, Jerry Gotmer, of the home; as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family.

In addition to her parents, Charles H. Stone and Amy Christine Cornine Stone and husbands, James Ballenger and Roy DeWitt; she was preceded in death by a daughter, Marie Simpson; a grandson, Jessie Ballenger; one brother, Carl “Bud” Stone; and a sister, Betty Kirby.
