The jury trial for a former Glasgow and current Blackburn resident charged with a felony for allegedly taking advantage of the elderly was held last week.
According to a probable-cause statement, Lindsay Michelle Forbes was appointed as qualified guardian and conservator over her father’s estate in 2016. On January 5, 2018, the Saline County Division of Aging reported to the Marshall Police Department a possible exploitation of an elder.
Westport Estates in Marshall advised the elderly man that there was an outstanding balance on his account of more than $26,000; and an outstanding bill of more than $1,150 owed to a pharmacy that provides his medications. Forbes was alleged to have made purchases with the man’s funds that totaled more than $27,800, and none of the items reportedly ever reached the man’s residence.
According to online court documents, 42-year-old Forbes posted surety bond in January 2018, and pleaded not guilty in May 2018.
On September 26, the Saline County jury returned a guilty verdict of a Class B Felony for Financial Exploitation of an Elderly or Disabled Person. The state’s motion to revoke Forbes’ bond was denied by the court.
The Missouri Board of Probation and Parole has been ordered to conduct an investigation and file a written report prior to the sentencing date. Forbes is scheduled to be sentenced at 1:15 p.m. on Monday, November 25, at Saline County Circuit Court.
