Earlier this month through a post on the department’s Facebook page, Carrollton Police Chief Robert Turner announced he will be resigning.
According to an official release from the department, Turner has served a total of seven years on the police force of Carrollton, with the last six as its chief.
Turner was appointed the department’s interim chief in the summer of 2013. He was fully appointed in the fall of 2013. Turner’s last day will be Friday, October 18.
According to the original Facebook post:
“To my community, it saddens me to inform you that I will be resigning as your Chief of Police. This was not an easy decision, but what was best for my family with a new career opportunity. It has been an honor to serve this community, which I have called home for many years and which I will continue to call home. Our community assisted me in growing into the chief I have become, and I thank you for that. The department we have shaped consists of intelligent, compassionate, and community-oriented officers that have the opportunity to continue to grow with your support….”
According to the release from the department, the Town Council has named Captain Christopher S. Looney as interim chief until such time as a hiring process can be conducted and an appointment made.
Looney said: “I am honored to serve the community in this capacity, and I look forward to the continued growth of the department as we hold steady on the same path that Chief Turner laid out. Chief Turner will be missed greatly.”
A proposed date of appointment for a new chief has not been announced by the council.
