A 30-year-old Boonville man has been charged with a felony for allegedly kidnapping a child.
According to a probable-cause statement, on Thursday, October 10, authorities responded to David Barton Elementary School for a report of a child allegedly being taken without the mother’s approval.
Devin Wayne Maupin reportedly removed a 10-year-old child from the school. School personnel called the child’s mother to get approval for Maupin, and she reportedly told them that Maupin was not to take the child. Maupin reportedly was confronted by the principal about leaving the child at the school, but Maupin said he was taking the child and placed him in his vehicle and left.
Maupin reportedly is not on the child’s birth certificate, and a DNA test has not been performed to prove he is the child’s father. There is no court order on any custody involving the child.
According to online court documents, a warrant has been issued and Maupin has been charged with a Class A Felony for Child Kidnapping. Bond has been set at $50,000 cash or surety.
Maupin’s initial hearing is pending at Cooper County circuit court.
