During its meeting on Monday, October 21, the Higginsville Board of Aldermen recognized Higginsville Police Chief Shawn Smith for 20 years of service to the city.
City Administrator Jeanette Dobson said Smith is well respected and liked.

According to a release from Dobson, Smith began as a police officer in 1999. He was promoted to sergeant in March 2001; to captain in February 2003; and to chief in July 2004.
In other news, aldermen considered approval of a conditional-use request.
