An area law-enforcement agency has issued a scam alert.
A post on the Boonville Police Department’s Facebook page says: “We have a scam alert from a telephone number of (865) 381-4332. The call purports to be a public defender representing a grandchild that has been arrested and needs bond money.”
The post says public defenders will not call seeking bond money for clients. The scammer will attempt to have a person send them money via wire transfer, money gram, etc.
If you receive any telephone calls that seem suspicious, you are urged to call law enforcement.
