A Silverton, Colorado, man has been charged with a couple of felonies after a traffic stop on I-70 in Lafayette County on October 22.
According to a probable-cause statement, 23-year-old James Earl Schertz was driving a motorcycle which had been reported as stolen out of Colorado. Also, during a search of Schertz, a syringe and a plastic baggie containing a crystal substance were found. A field test confirmed the substance to contain methamphetamine.
According to online court documents, Schertz has been charged with Class D Felonies for Possession of a Controlled Substance and Tampering with a Motor Vehicle in the First Degree. Bond has been set at $15,000.
Schertz was arraigned on October 23, and his next hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 6, at Lafayette County circuit Court.
