A warrant has been issued and an inmate at the Boonville Correctional Center has been charged with a couple of felonies for allegedly assaulting another inmate with a weapon on October 6.
According to a probable-cause statement, upon reviewing the surveillance footage, an officer said he saw Deandre J. Cothran go into “A” Bay and start stabbing another inmate in the left side while the other inmate was sitting on his bunk. After the assault, the victim went to medical to have his wounds treated. The officer says he also saw Cothran go to the bathroom where he placed an unknown item into a toilet and flushed it. Then Cothran returned to his bay.
On October 8, the officer interviewed the victim who reportedly confirmed a weapon was used.
Online court documents say Cothran has been charged with a Class B Felony for Assault in the First Degree and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. Bond has been fixed at $25,000 cash or surety.
Cothran’s initial hearing is pending at Cooper County Circuit Court.
