A Gardner, Kansas, man has been charged with a drug-related felony after a suspicious person was reported near Highland and Main Streets in Lexington on November 13.
According to a probable-cause statement, upon arrival, the police officer noticed a pickup truck had struck a utility pole, and the line was down. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Michael Duane Clayton. He was transported to Lafayette Regional Health Center for medical treatment.
An officer at the hospital reportedly located a large amount of white powdery substance in Clayton’s sock. During a consented search of the rest of Clayton’s clothing, authorities say they found more baggies of white powder- some testing positive for methamphetamine and others for THC; and a small scale, which tested positive to have methamphetamine residue on it. Clayton also reportedly had $181 in cash and possessed 11 counterfeit $100 bills- all of which tested positive for traces of methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Clayton has been charged with a Class B Felony for Trafficking Drugs or Attempt in the First Degree; and a drug-related misdemeanor. Bond has been fixed at $25,000 cash or surety.
While in custody, Clayton entered a plea of not guilty during his arraignment hearing on Thursday, November 14. His next hearing is scheduled for December 4 at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
