A Hannibal man was killed and an Illinois resident sustained moderate injuries following a multi vehicle crash in Carroll County on Friday, November 16, 2019.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred when 57-year-old Bradley Griggs of Hannibal was southbound on U.S. Highway 24 when he failed to slow down for traffic in a construction zone. Grigg’s vehicle overtook and struck the vehicle driven by 46-year-old Candice Smothers of Pittsfield, Illinois, causing a chain reaction. Smothers’ vehicle was pushed into the southbound vehicle driven by 40-year-old Kyle Durham, of Norborne, which was then pushed into the vehicle driven by 74-year-old Larry Strait of Warrensburg.
Griggs was pronounced dead at the scene by Carroll County Sherriff Erik Dempsey. Smothers sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Carroll County Memorial Hospital by Carroll County EMS
The crash happened just before 3 o’clock Friday afternoon on US Highway 24 at 10 Highway.
