Four Sedalia families have been displaced from their homes due to recent fires, so the city is doing something to help.
A news release from the city says: “We understand these families did not have adequate or even any insurance and have essentially lost everything. As Sedalia has always been known for, our community has rallied around these families, asking about ways they can help. Therefore, effective immediately, our City’s Finance Department has established a “Fire Relief Fund” for those who would like to donate gift cards or money to help these families get through this tragedy.”
Funds may be dropped off at the Municipal Building at 200 South Osage Avenue; Fire Headquarters at 2606 West 16th Street; or the Water Department’s night depository at 111 West 4th Street.
“Some of these displaced family members are pets. If you or someone you know would consider fostering these pets until their families are back on their feet, we ask that you to please drop by the Sedalia Animal Shelter or call the shelter at (660) 826-5816. We will have you fill out a foster application in order to help keep these fur-babies comfortable until they return to their permanent homes.”
“Please note that these donations may be tax deductible, so the Finance Department can provide documentation for you if you desire.” The Finance Department can be reached at (660) 827-3000.
