An Odessa man has been charged with felonies after he allegedly left the scene of a traffic crash in Lafayette County on Monday, December 2.
According to a probable-cause statement, Odessa Police officers were dispatched to the 600 block of West Mason in reference to the crash that caused property damage. The victim said Wade Smith’s vehicle crashed into their fence, and he continued through the yard and eventually parked the vehicle behind his residence. Damage to the victim’s fence has been estimated at $1,600 minimum.
When officers attempted to detain Smith, he reportedly became physically combative, and actively resisted arrest. Smith allegedly kicked two of the officers and had to be subdued and placed into a caged patrol car.
Court documents say Smith has been charged with Class E Felonies for Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Property Damage in the First Degree and Resisting Arrest for a Felony; as well as a driving-related misdemeanor. Bond has been set at $5,000 cash or surety.
Smith entered a plea of not guilty during his arraignment hearing on Tuesday, December 3. His next hearing is scheduled to be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
