Fewer than one percent of the more than 141,000 student members of the National Speech and Debate Association earn the Academic All-American Award each year.
According to a news release, four Marshall High School students- seniors Adison Stocksdale, KK Elfrink, Drew Arends and Marissa Vestal- have earned the honor.
This award recognizes students who earned the Degree of Distinction (more than 750 competition points); achieved a GPA of 3.7 or higher; and demonstrated outstanding character and leadership.
Speech and Debate provides life skills vital to a young person’s success. Speech and Debate advances communication skills; improves reading, writing and critical-thinking skills; and prepares students for college, a career and beyond.
