During a meeting of the Saline County Commission on December 3, commissioners approved Kandi Knipmeyer as a new hire as a legal assistant in Prosecuting Attorney Tim Thompson’s office at $38,710 annually. At that time, Auditor Tara Vogelsmeier asked if the prosecutor’s office is exempt from the policy of starting out all new employees with the county at $12 per hour. At that time, Presiding Commissioner Kile Guthrey Jr. said he would get an answer and get back to Vogelsmeier.
During the meeting of the commission on Thursday, December 12, Vogelsmeier asked commissioners for an update because it is a possible change in the policy. Vogelsmeier explained she is just trying to uphold the commission’s policy.

After some discussion, Vogelsmeier read the current policy.

After more discussion, commissioners made it a matter of record and said the prosecutor’s office is exempt from the current policy.
