A Malta Bend man who allegedly led authorities on a high-speed pursuit through Marshall and onto northbound U.S. Highway 65 on Saturday, December 21, is facing felony charges.
A probable-cause statement says a deputy attempted a traffic stop, and after pulling over to the side of the road, the driver sped away, the vehicle’s tires spinning out. The chase reportedly reached speeds of 50 and 60 miles per hour through town and approximately 110 miles per hour on the highway.
Authorities halted the pursuit, but the suspect vehicle was located parked in Malta Bend. The license on the vehicle reportedly belonged to another vehicle, which was registered to Larry Russell Howard.
Due to the vehicle being involved in a crime, it was towed and searched. During the search, authorities say they located a pistol and a knife, as well as a black purse containing two syringes containing fluid- which tested positive for methamphetamine; several unused syringes; and a sandwich-style baggie containing some methamphetamine.
According to court documents, Howard has been charged with a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance; a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest; and a misdemeanor. Bond has been set at $10,000 cash or surety.
Howard was scheduled to appear for his initial arraignment on Monday, December 23, at Saline County Circuit Court. No other information is available at this time.
