An area teenager gave it a nice run to win a five-figure check during the latest episode of “Forged in Fire,” which aired on “The History Channel” at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 8.
Marshall Junction-area resident Colton Kiso, who was 18 at the time of the recording and is now 19, made it to the final round of the four-person competition, but, in the end, he finished second.
Kiso, who, according to his Facebook page, has been blacksmithing since he was 10, was worried his blade was too light in the final round. He said: “I made this blade for slicing, not chopping trees down.”
Ultimately, 51-year-old Scott Sweet took home the $10,000 check. His sword stood up to the tests at the end of the competition better than Kiso’s.
Kiso was disappointed, but he said he learned a lot. “… He (Sweet) outperformed me, and that’s OK. I can be outdone. I might not have won “Forged in Fire”, but I learned so much as a bladesmith, and I have grown as a person doing this competition.”
