Brunswick R-2 Schools were evacuated during the morning of Tuesday, January 14, due to a suspected natural-gas leak.
According to a release from the district, the concerning smell came from the natural-gas station at the northwest corner of the school grounds.
The release says: “The Brunswick R-2 Crisis Plan was executed and our students were removed from a potentially-dangerous situation within minutes. The building was evacuated, and the students and staff were bused to the Brunswick American Legion Hall. Our immediate concern in this type of situation is the safety of our students and staff.”
After multiple checks by a gas company, the building was deemed safe. Students and staff were bused back to the school, and the day resumed.
