Marshall fire fighters were dispatched to the report of smoke coming from a structure on Tuesday, January 14.
According to a fire department spokesperson, a neighbor called and reported seeing smoke coming from a house in the 200 block of East North Street. Fire fighters were toned out at 2:27 p.m.
They arrived on the scene shortly thereafter and noticed a clothes basket sitting close to a space heater was smoldering. They removed it and cleared the smoke. He said the damage mainly was contained to that room, the space heater and clothes basket.
Losses were estimated at $100 for contents and nothing to the structure. But the spokesperson said it could’ve been much worse had the neighbor not made the call to report seeing smoke.
The spokesperson said nobody was home; but two dogs had to be rescued and were uninjured.
Fire fighters cleared the scene at 2:54 p.m. There were no injuries.
