Jane Perkins was at the meeting of the Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen and informed the board she had purchased the old movie theatre and the building next to it on the west side of Miller Street during the board’s meeting on Monday, January 13.
According to meeting minutes, Perkins said she is in the process of renovating the buildings for the purpose of them providing community involvement and an entertainment venue.
Perkins said she would like to hold a Fiber Festival during April 24-26. She said this is like the one that has been held the last several years in Bethel, Mo., but is not going to be held this year.
Perkins requested the board approve Miller Street to Turner Street to be closed from 5 p.m. on Friday, April 24, through 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 26. She said she is hoping to have vendors to set up on the street. She also said she is working with the Stock Dog Association to come and do trials at the rodeo arena that weekend. She’s also hopeful to hold a barbecue contest.
Aldermen approved the street closure.
In other news, the board approved the Public Works Department to purchase a Saltdogg from Key Hydraulic in Sedalia for $3,900. It was the lower of two bids received.
