During its meeting on Monday, January 13, alderman Boyd Jones, the Planning and Zoning Liaison, explained to the Sweet Springs Board of Aldermen that the P&Z Committee sometimes has issues with the building-permit process.
According to meeting minutes, Jones said there are times when a citation needs to be issued, and the P&Z Administrator is not sure if he has the ability to have the police department issue a citation. Jones said a form he presented to the board will make the process easier. Jones explained the citation will be given upon the third notice of violation. The property owner will be given two notices and plenty of time to correct the problem, just like other nuisances.
Mark Schmitt was present and said he feels the city has some issues with property lines since the town is old and some variances should be given. He said he feels it should be a case-by-case issue. Jones explained that such matters are usually resolved in that manner.
After more discussion, Jones moved to add Planning and Zoning Liaison instead of the mayor’s name. However, it died due to a lack of a second.
Alderman Wyatt Lea moved to accept the form as presented. It was seconded by Jones and approved two to one; with one alderman abstaining.
