A 29-year-old Marshall man is facing felony charges for allegedly having uploaded child pornography.
According to a probable-cause statement, on February 12, 2018, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from Tumblr.com of possible child pornography that had been uploaded to its site. A search warrant for the Tumblr.com account resulted in 1,204 images and videos uploaded to this account. After review, an investigator determined there were 289 images and six videos which appear to be child pornography. The photos and videos were all boys who appeared to be under the age of 18.
On September 6, 2018, members of the Western Missouri Cyber Crimes Task Force, along with Marshall Police officers, went to an apartment in the 800 block on South Miami Avenue and contacted Juan Carlos Sepulveda. Sepulveda was mirandized and interviewed. Sepulveda allegedly admitted to uploading what he believed to be child pornography on his cellular phone.
According to court documents, a warrant has been issued and Sepulveda has been charged with two counts of a Class B Felony for Possession of Child Pornography-Second or Subsequent Offense or Possession of More Than 20 Pictures or One Film or Videotape; and a Class D Felony for Possession of Child Pornography- First Offense. Bond has been set at $50,000 cash or surety.
Sepulveda’s initial appearance is pending at Saline County Circuit Court.
