A Boonville man has been charged with felonies after he allegedly led authorities on a pursuit in a reported stolen vehicle in Cooper County on January 12.
According to a probable-cause statement, the driver of a vehicle allegedly ran through a red light and then failed to stop for a law-enforcement officer, who had his lights flashing and siren sounding. During part of the pursuit, the suspect vehicle reportedly traveled into the wrong lane.
The pursuit reportedly continued onto I-70 and through the parking lots of Love’s Travel Center and Pilot Travel Center. The driver eventually stopped the vehicle and was taken into custody. The suspect vehicle reportedly was stolen out of Columbia.
According to court documents, a warrant has been issued and Shawn Michael Pitts has been charged with a Class D Felony for Stealing of $750 or More; and Class E Felonies for Resisting Arrest, Detention or Stop by Fleeing and Driving While Revoked or Suspended. Bond has been set at $25,000 cash or surety.
Pitts’ initial hearing is pending at Cooper County Circuit Court.
