An officer-involved shooting is being investigated by the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s Division of Drug and Crime Control.
A news release from the Missouri State Highway Patrol says at 1:26 p.m. on Monday, February 3 a Lone Jack police officer was in pursuit of an eastbound vehicle on Highway 50. The chase went on for several miles through Johnson County before a trooper disabled the vehicle with spike strips. The suspect vehicle traveled off the highway and struck a ditch on the north side of the highway.
The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect exited his vehicle with a long gun and presented it in a threatening manner. At 1:39 p.m., the trooper, fearing for his safety, fired his weapon striking the suspect. The suspect was transported by an air ambulance to a hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. The trooper was not injured.
