A 52-year-old Carrollton woman has been charged with a felony for allegedly stealing a package off the front porch of a residence in Carrollton.
According to a probable-cause statement, a resident in the 400 block of North Monroe Street reported to authorities a package containing a Samsung Tablet reportedly was left by UPS on her front porch on January 31. The woman had a receipt that says the tablet cost more than $1,100. The woman told authorities she never received the package. A man reported to authorities another woman attempted to sell him the tablet for $500.
During the investigation, authorities obtained a search warrant for the potential suspect’s residence. Officers recovered the reported stolen tablet. Melissa Ann Ashley was arrested.
According to court documents, Ashley has been charged with a Class D Felony for Stealing of $750 or More. Bond has been set at $2,000 cash or licensed surety- no 10-percent allowed.
Ashley was scheduled for her initial appearance at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, February 5, at Carroll County Circuit Court. No update is available at this time.
