A Sedalia man charged with felonies after attempting to kidnap a 10-year-old girl on December 15, 2018, entered a plea to amended charges late last year and is scheduled to appear for a sentencing hearing this week.
A probable-cause statement said witnesses told authorities Corey Owens was dragging the girl by the arm as she was yelling for help. Also, while being detained at the scene, Owens allegedly resisted several times and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.
Owens, who is now 29, originally was charged with a Class B Felony for First-Degree Kidnapping; a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance; and Class E Felonies for Assault in the Third Degree and Resisting Arrest.
On December 19, 2019, Owens pleaded guilty to the latter three charges- not the kidnapping charge.
Owens’ sentencing hearing was continued from February 11. He is scheduled for another sentencing hearing at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, February 18, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
