The Marshall School Board met in special open session on Tuesday, February 18, to discuss its goals.
According to meeting minutes, the board’s goals which were adopted in September 2019 were discussed. Board President Brad Guthrey reported committees will begin meeting next month to develop a strategic plan for the district. Guthrey asked board members if they had any areas of concern they wanted each committee to address on each goal.
GOAL 1: Marshall Public Schools will provide and maintain a supportive environment that contributes to the academic success, confidence and well-being of all students. (The board suggested addressing information from the Safety and Security Committee.)
GOAL 2: Marshall Public Schools will recruit, support and retain highly-effective and efficient teachers, staff and leaders who find satisfaction in the workplace and are dedicated to the district’s mission of excellence. (The board suggested recruiting, hiring and retaining teachers and salaries.)
GOAL 3: Marshall Public Schools will encourage the involvement of all students, families, school employees and taxpayers and will work to maintain open communication and cooperation across the school community. (The board suggested addressing information from the PR Committee and how to have more communication with the public.)
GOAL 4: Marshall Public Schools will be fiscally responsible with taxpayer money, and include any willing community members in short- and long-term decisions that are pertinent to the continual improvement of educational opportunities and district facilities. (The board suggested addressing what to do with buildings that are being abandoned after students are moved to a new building and how to reach out to community members to serve on committees.)
In closed session, the board approved the resignation of Instructional Coach and Teacher Professions Program Instructor Amber Tottingham as of the end of the 2019-20 school year on a 4-3 vote.
