A Sedalia man is in custody in connection with a shooting incident that took place Saturday night in Sedalia.
The Sedalia Police Department reports officers were dispatched to the area of South Engineer Avenue and East 13th Street at about 9:28 p.m. in reference to a shooting incident.
Upon arrival, officers found a 49-year-old male who had sustained a single gunshot wound to the right side of his chest with a small caliber weapon. The victim received medical attention at the scene and he was eventually transported by air ambulance to the University of Missouri Hospital. As of 6 a.m. Sunday, he was reportedly in stable condition.
An investigation at the scene further revealed that a confrontation between the victim and 28-year-old Michael Ray Carpenter had taken place at a residence in the 1200 block of East 13th Street. Carpenter was taken into custody and transported to the Pettis County Jail where he was placed on a 24-hour-hold.
Carpenter was arrested on charges of First Degree Assault, Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Habitual Drug User in Possession of a Firearm.
His bond and initial court date is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
