A 35-year-old Boonville woman was killed in a two-vehicle traffic crash in Cooper County on Wednesday.
According to a report from the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Chantel Winfield lost control of her westbound Kia Sportage on the ice-covered roadway. Her vehicle traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck the concrete barrier and returned to the roadway. Winfield attempted to exit the vehicle while it was still in motion, when the Sportage was struck by a westbound International LT 62F, driven by 51-year-old Michael Gulley, of Lawrence, Kansas.
The Kia Sportage continued off the right side of the roadway, and Winfield was ejected. The Sportage then struck the concrete barrier.
Winfield was pronounced deceased by Cooper County coroner James Hurt at the scene at 7:51 a.m. Gulley was not injured.
The crash happened at 6:30 a.m. just east of the 114.6 mile marker on I-70.
