A Marshall teen has been charged with a felony for allegedly leaving the scene of an accident that caused thousands of dollars worth of damage on January 26.
According to a report from a law-enforcement officer, 19-year-old James Wansing drove his truck through a fence and proceeded to do donuts in a field on Schlotzhauer Road. He exited the field by driving through another part of the fence and exited the property.
At the intersection of Schlotzhauer Road and Georgetown Drive, he stopped and two persons in another vehicle caught up to him in their vehicle. One of the two persons in the other vehicle attempted to approach Wansing’s vehicle and stated that he was nearly run over by Wansing, who drove down the road a short distance before stopping again. At that point, the other vehicle passed Wansing and attempted to block Georgetown Drive with the vehicle sitting sideways in the roadway. Wansing’s vehicle then struck the other vehicle, pushing it off the roadway and into a ditch, causing an estimated $10,122.70 worth of damage to the truck.
Wansing then proceeded to leave the scene of the crash and drive to Otterville, where he was located by deputies.
A warrant has been issued and Wansing has been charged with a Class C Felony for Leaving the Scene of an Accident – Property Damage exceeding $1,000. Bond has been fixed at $7,500 cash or surety.
Wansing’s initial appearance is pending at Cooper County circuit Court.
