Formal charges have been filed against a 35-year-old Marshall man who was arrested following a high-speed pursuit through multiple counties on January 3.
A probable-cause statement outlines the incident which began in Johnson County and ended in Marshall. Knob Noster Police officers responded to the report of shots fired in the 600 block of Elm Street at approximately 7:35 p.m. Upon officers’ arrival, they found 39-year-old Quincy Thomas had suffered a single gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.
The two suspects fled the scene. One of the suspects, identified as Luis Lerma, was located in Saline County. When Saline County deputies attempted to stop a vehicle, a pursuit through Marshall ensued. Lerma jumped out of the moving car on Pinewood Circle. He wasn’t located at that time but turned himself in a few days later in Johnson County, where he has been charged with multiple felonies, including a Class A Felony for Assault in the First Degree.
In Saline County, Lerma has been charged with a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest by Fleeing; property-damage and driving-related misdemeanors and an infraction. Bond has been set at $10,000 cash.
Lerma’s initial hearing at Saline County Circuit Court is pending.
In Johnson County, Lerma was arraigned on January 8. A case review is scheduled to be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 4, and his preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, at Johnson County Circuit Court.
