A Higginsville man is facing felony charges after an alleged incident earlier this week.

According to the Higginsville Police Department, at about 9 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, officers received a call of suspicious activity in the area of 22nd and Cypress Streets. Officers arrived in the area and located Ronnie Dale Summers, a parolee recently released from the Missouri Department of Corrections.

Officers located methamphetamine on Summers, and when an officer attempted to place Summers under arrest, Summers resisted and led officers on a short foot pursuit before being taken into custody. During the incident, an officer suffered a broken wrist. He was transported by ambulance to Centerpoint Medical Center in Independence, where he was treated and released.

Summers was interviewed and stated that since his release from DOC in January, he has been on supervised parole and actively using and selling methamphetamine in Higginsville.

Summers has been charged with a Class B Felony for Assault in the Second Degree- Special Victim; a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance; and a Class E Felony for Resisting Arrest for a Felony. Summers is being held at the Lafayette County Jail with no bond.

Summers’ initial hearing is pending at Lafayette County Circuit Court.
