More than 7,300 anglers visited three state parks on opening day of trout season. The catch-and-keep trout season began at 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 1.
A news release says based on trout-tag sales, 2,378 anglers visited Bennett Spring State Park near Lebanon; 2,457 anglers visited Montauk State Park near Salem; and 2,558 anglers visited Roaring River State Park near Cassville.
This year’s total is an increase of nearly 2,200 from last year’s opening day.
Trout season in Missouri is a cooperative effort of the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, which manages state parks, and the Missouri Department of Conservation, which operates the hatcheries and stocks the streams with trout.
The catch-and-keep trout season continues through October 31.
