A La Monte man is facing felony charges relating to an alleged incident last year.
A probable-cause statement says on December 8, Howard Martin III was walking around a residence with a machete threatening to kill anyone he saw. He also was threatening to kill any deputy who showed up at his door.
After talking with a witness, authorities went to make contact with Martin, who would not come to the door. They had to get a key from the witness and later located Martin. When they were trying to handcuff and get Martin into the patrol vehicle, Martin resisted, at one point attempting to kick a deputy. Martin eventually was taken into custody. Authorities recovered the machete.
A warrant has been issued and Martin has been charged with Class E Felonies for Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Resisting Arrest for a Felony; and an assault misdemeanor. Bond has been set at $50,000 cash or surety.
Martin’s initial hearing is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
