Taking the lead, the Saline County Health Department hosted a meeting that was comprised of multiple agencies- including the Marshall Police and Fire Departments and city officials; superintendents and/or other personnel from all of the county’s school districts; nursing-home and assisted-living administrators and personnel; the Saline County Ambulance District; Fitzgibbon Hospital; and several others to discuss a plan going forward to handle the Covid-19 pandemic that has gripped the nation.
Numerous ideas were batted around, including a recommendation to have all schools stay closed until at least through Friday, April 3, and returning on Monday, April 6. The schools still in session were recommended to dismiss after Wednesday, March 18.
During the meeting, they talked about how to keep all of the students occupied and doing school work during the lengthy layoff. They made sure to point out that this is not an extended spring break.
Those in attendance and health-department personnel also discussed: how this will affect employees of businesses; how each agency can help each other; and how to keep everybody safe; among many other topics.
Brewer said all residents in the county have to help out each other.
Saline Medical Reserve Corps Emergency Preparedness Planner Russ Donnell put everything into perspective. He says what happens in the next few weeks is extremely important.
