Under construction since the beginning of August 2019, the project to replace the Middle Fork Chariton River and Overflow bridges, located just east of Salisbury on U.S. Highway 24, is now complete.
The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) says the bridges were some of the first to be constructed as part of Governor Mike Parson’s “Focus on Bridges” program passed by the Missouri General Assembly during its 2019 session. The $351 million program will repair or replace 250 bridges across the state.
Contractors from E&C Bridge, LLC and MoDOT crews worked to bring the bridges up to current standards. Crews staged construction to allow one lane of traffic through the work zone at all times using temporary traffic signals.
On March 25, crews were able to open all lanes to two-way traffic, though some work may still occur off the roadway.
