The candidate-filing deadline for the August Primary Election was at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31.
According to a release from Saline County Clerk Debbie Russell, there will be one race for a seat on the county commission.
Incumbent Stephanie Gooden and Jonathan Borges have filed as Republican candidates for Northern District Commissioner. Incumbent Monte Fenner has filed as the only candidate as a Democrat for Southern District Commissioner.
Current sheriff Cindi Mullins filed as the only Democrat candidate; and Mike Thomas has filed as a Republican.
Assessor Jessica Adcock Goodman has filed for another term as a Republican. Nobody filed as a Democrat.
For Treasurer, incumbent Republican Marty Smith originally filed to run for another term. However, he withdrew his candidacy with a formal letter on March 31. So, the only person who has filed for candidacy is Republican Jared Brewer.
Public Administrator Paula Barr has filed to run for another term as a Democrat.
Russell also notes that persons wishing to file a declaration of candidacy as an Independent Candidate to run for one of the elected positions must first present a petition to the county clerk with the required number of qualified signatures before the deadline of 5 p.m. on July 27 in order to be considered as an Independent Candidate on the November 2020 General Election ballot.
Winners in the Primary Election will be the candidate for the particular party in the General Election in November.
