Because of the continued Coronavirus situation, New Franklin R-1 Schools will be closed through Friday, April 24.
The school district says as of now, New Franklin students can resume school beginning Monday, April 27. At that time, the district will reassess the situation to determine if the cancellation of days will need to be extended.
Superintendent Brian Cordel issued a letter to parents, which includes:
Decisions of this magnitude are difficult and heartbreaking, but after consulting with other district administrators and our Board of Education, we have determined this to be the safest and most reasonable course of action. As in our current closure, all academic and extracurricular events, club activities, field trips, meetings, etc., will be canceled, and the building remains closed to most faculty, staff and guests.
We have received several questions in the last few days:
— As of now, we will plan to return to school on Monday, April 27. Please be advised that this return day may be extended based on a number of factors. If we are forced to extend our closure, we will send a notice to you as soon as a decision is made.
— We will be collecting the first round of instructional packets for all students (grades K-12) in the elementary side circle drive under the awning from 1 to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8 and Thursday, April 9. All collected materials will be boxed up and placed in quarantine for a few days.
— If you would prefer, there are some other options you could use to deliver the packets:
1. You may scan and e-mail the contents of your child’s packet rather than come to school. Students in grades K-5 should e-mail completed scanned packets to their classroom teacher. Students in grades 6-12 should e-mail completed scanned
packets to their individual class teacher.
2. Photograph (from phone) homework, scan and e-mail to the teacher.
3. You may also mail completed packets to school at: 412 West Broadway, New
Franklin, MO 65274.
— Second-round packets will be sent out to all families via e-mail. If you do not have a working e-mail in our system, a hard copy of the packet expectations will be delivered or mailed to your home. Please contact your teacher, or building principal if a packet should be delivered to you.
— Unfortunately, we have decided to cancel prom for this year. Rest assured this was not an easy decision, and we weighed a number of options, but all seemed to present more issues than solutions.
— Should our May 10 graduation be canceled, we have set a tentative date for 2 p.m. on June 20. Again, this date may change, pending our current pandemic issues.
