Carrollton Police Chief Christopher Looney released information to clarify an incident that took place on Wednesday, April 1.
The release says Carrollton Police officers received information that a subject who was associated with an address under quarantine in Waverly had broken quarantine and was traveling to a business in Carrollton. Contact was made with officials in Lafayette County in reference to the alleged violation, and it was confirmed that an address associated with certain persons were under quarantine.
The individual reported to be associated with the quarantined address was stopped and questioned while in their vehicle in the parking lot of a local business. The individual advised that they were not ordered to quarantine, but they did admit that they had been in contact with a person who resides within a quarantined home within the last 14 days.
Acting under the guidance of CDC recommendations to self-isolate when known exposure occurs, the individual was advised that it was for the betterment of public health to go back to their residence in Waverly and to seek the guidance of Lafayette County Officials as to their quarantine status based upon the exposure to which they admitted. Contact was made with both Lafayette County and Carroll County Officials in reference to the action taken by the police department.
The Town of Carrollton has no ban on individuals from any community from coming into it for resources; however, the individuals must follow the current orders in place and abide by state law. The current “State of Emergency” occurring within the nation due to the COVID-19 virus is of an unprecedented nature and first-responders are taking every step to protect the public health of everyone with the least amount of limitations.
