Two Indiana residents have been charged with felonies in connection with an alleged attempted armed robbery in Saline County on December 15, 2019.
A probable-cause statement says at approximately 4:17 p.m. Timothy Smith, of Evansville, and Brittni Smith, of Newburgh, entered the Lion’s Den at 11633 Route J with the intention of committing an armed robbery. A witness says Timothy Smith brandished a firearm, put it against his back and demanded money. The witness says Brittni Smith was acting in collusion with Timothy Smith. Timothy Smith was identified by the witness from a photo lineup presented by law enforcement.
After the two suspects attempted another armed robbery at Steak ‘n Shake in Columbia, they fled. They were later apprehended in White County, Illinois.
Each suspect has been charged with a Class B Felony for Attempted Robbery in the First Degree; and Timothy Smith has an additional charge of an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. Bond for Timothy Smith has been set at $150,000 cash. Brittni Smith’s bond is $50,000 cash.
Each defendant’s initial hearing is pending at Saline County Circuit Court.
