A 40-year-old Sedalia man is facing multiple felony charges after a lengthy standoff with multiple law-enforcement agencies ended when he surrendered on Sunday, April 12.
A probable-cause statement says authorities were dispatched to a reported domestic disturbance about 11:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Scott Joplin Drive. The suspect didn’t let law-enforcement officers enter the apartment, but spoke to them through a window. Officers located a woman who had noticeable injuries to her face and neck.
After negotiating with the man for about three hours, authorities attempted to enter the apartment to rescue four children under the age of 11 who were inside. However, the suspect allegedly shot three rounds through the door and hit an officer’s ballistic shield. One officer suffered minor injuries. Officers did not return fire and backed out to avoid any other confrontations for the safety of the children.
Negotiations continued for several more hours, and Rance M. Noble eventually was taken into custody without further incident.
Noble has been charged with four counts of a Class A Felony for Assault in the First Degree or Attempt; three counts of a Class B Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon; Class D Felonies for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Domestic Assault in the Second Degree and Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the First Degree- No Sexual Contact; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. He is being held without bond.
Noble’s initial hearing is pending at Pettis County Circuit Court.
