A 28-year-old Sedalia man has been sentenced to spend several years in state prison for a shooting incident earlier this year.
A report from the Sedalia Police Department says officers responded to South Engineer Avenue and East 13th Street on February 22 in reference to a shooting incident, and officers found a 49-year-old man who had sustained a single gunshot wound to the right side of his chest with a small-caliber weapon. The victim received medical attention on the scene and was flown by helicopter to University Hospital in Columbia for further treatment.
An investigation revealed a confrontation had occurred between the victim and Michael Ray Carpenter; and Carpenter was arrested.
Carpenter was charged with a Class A Felony for Assault in the First Degree- Causing Serious Physical Injury; a Class D Felony for Possession of a Controlled Substance; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action.
On Monday, April 20, Carpenter entered a guilty plea to the assault and armed-criminal action charges. He was sentenced to 10 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections on each charge, with the sentences to run concurrently.
