Superintendent Dr. Carol Maher reported to the Marshall School Board during its meeting on Tuesday, April 21, that the district has asked the custodial and maintenance staff to come back to prepare for the return of staff.
Dr. Maher also said the district received an update from DESE that Governor Mike Parson is withholding funds from K-12 education, and this amount will be approximately $50,000 for the district. She said DESE has instructed districts to be extremely cautious with budgeting for next year.
Dr. Maher also reported the Missouri National Guard out of St. Louis will be helping with the district’s food distribution beginning April 27.
In an action taken, the school board approved the salary schedule that includes no money added to the base. Teachers will be allowed to move vertically and horizontally, and classified staff members will receive their step. The other part is the deductible for the flex-point health-insurance was increased from $2,000 to $4,000. Monthly premium for the $4,000 deductible will be $585, compared to $642 for the $2,000 deductible. HSA deductible will be raised from $5,000 to $6,500, with the new monthly premium of $492 compared to $456 for the $5,000 deductible.
