The Marshall High School debate squad was competing at the Heart of America District Tournament- a National Tournament Qualifying event- when is was suddenly postponed in March, due to COVID-19.
According to a news release, this past week, after many weeks of preparation and hard work, the tournament resumed online through video links.
Drew Arends finished seventh out of 40 entries in Original Oratory. The top four students advance to the national event.
Other results were:
Olivia Kiso and John Miles- 12th out of 55 in Public Forum Debate;
Arends- 13th of 53 in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate;
Marissa Vestal- 16th in Humorous Interpretation;
Liz McDonald and Vestal- 17th in Public Forum Debate; and
Connor Grossenburg- 18th in the Lincoln-Douglas Debate.
The Heart of America District is the largest qualifying tournament in the United States.
