A Cooper County resident who is facing multiple felony charges for allegedly shooting at another vehicle on I-70 in Montgomery County on April 7 is due in court this week.
According to a probable-cause statement, Missouri State Highway Patrol troopers responded to the report of a shooting. The reporting party said the driver and sole occupant of another vehicle had fired shots from inside his moving vehicle that struck and disabled a van that also was traveling eastbound. After the shooting, the driver of the suspect vehicle exited and turned back westbound. The van that was hit by the gunfire had three persons inside. A truck driver also gave an eyewitness account of the incident.
The suspect vehicle was stopped in Boone County, and troopers located a rifle and a pistol with additional magazines. Troopers also observed what appeared to be spent cartridge casings and other evidence indicating a weapon had been fired from inside the vehicle.
Chad Michael Kennedy, of Boonville, has been charged with six counts of a Class B Felony for Unlawful Use of a Weapon; three counts of a Class B Felony for Assault or Attempt in the First Degree; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. The court has ordered Kennedy be held without bond.
Kennedy appeared for initial hearing on April 9. A bond-appearance hearing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Thursday, April 30, at Montgomery County Circuit Court.
