The Marshall Municipal Utilities’ Board of Public Works (BPW) approved a recommendation from MMU management for a 7.5-percent discount to all electric charges beginning with the June 1, 2020, billing, during its meeting on Thursday, April 30.
A news release says the Marshall City Council also must approve this rate reduction prior to it taking effect.
Last year, MMU management began work on a “Cost-of-Service-and-Rates-Study,” utilizing the professional services of Toth & Associates in Springfield. MMU General Manager Jeff Bergstrom and MMU Controller Tony Bersano discussed the recommendation with the board.
“We are able to make this recommendation because of decisions that have been made over the past decade by MMU management, the Board of Public Works and the Missouri Power Energy Pool (MoPEP),” Bergstrom said. “Additionally, MMU staff have worked to improve efficiencies while maintaining and improving reliability. All of these factors combined have put us in a position to provide needed relief to our customers during, what is for many, a difficult time.”
In order for the rate reduction to take effect on June 1, MMU will request the City Council approve the rate reduction during its next meeting on Monday, May 4.
